Real Club de Golf de Tenerife offers a completely different golf experience from the sunny resort layouts of the south. Founded in 1932, the club sits around 600 metres above sea level in the greener, cooler north of the island near Tacoronte. The 18-hole par-71 course is mature, tree-lined and traditional in character.
A course with real history
The present club was founded on 18 December 1932, but its local golfing roots go back even further through the Orotava Golf Club of 1896 and Tenerife Golf Club of 1912. The course itself was laid out by leading members of the club and has developed into a classic parkland setting with substantial native tree cover.
Tips & tricks
Accuracy and course management matter more here than the holiday-golf instinct to hit driver everywhere. Tree lines, out-of-bounds walls and doglegs reward keeping the ball in play and leaving a good angle for the next shot. The club’s etiquette guidance also puts a strong emphasis on pace: keep your place on the course and let faster groups through if you lose ground.
A different Tenerife climate
At around 600 metres elevation, conditions can be cooler and greener than at sea level in the south. Bring an extra layer and check the forecast before leaving your hotel. The altitude and traditional parkland character are exactly what make this a useful contrast if you are playing several Tenerife courses during one trip.
