Teno & the West

Teno & Masca Route

~50 km · Full day · 3 stops

Deep ravines, the famous mountain village of Masca and the towering sea cliffs of Los Gigantes in the rugged west.

The Teno massif in the west is remote and dramatic: deep barrancos, terraced hillsides and the celebrated village of Masca perched on a ridge.

The route pairs the mountain scenery with the coast at Los Gigantes, where sheer basalt cliffs plunge into the sea.

Good to know

Road character

The road to Masca is famously narrow, steep and serpentine with tight hairpins; it demands full attention and is not suited to large vehicles. Drive slowly, use passing points, and consider an organised excursion if you prefer not to drive it.

Best time

Early in the day to beat both traffic on the Masca road and afternoon cloud over the Teno hills.

Practical

Parking in Masca village is very limited — arrive early. The Masca gorge hike requires booking and proper footwear; check current access rules before planning it.
